How It Works

Date Order Conventions

Countries use three primary date component orderings:

  • DMY (Day-Month-Year) — Used by the majority of countries worldwide. Examples: 31/12/2025, 31.12.2025.
  • MDY (Month-Day-Year) — Primarily used in the United States, Belize, and a few other countries. Example: 12/31/2025.
  • YMD (Year-Month-Day) — Used in East Asian countries, follows ISO 8601 standard. Example: 2025-12-31, 2025/12/31.
Separators and Formatting

Date separators vary by country and convention:

  • Slash (/) — Common in the Americas, UK, and parts of Asia.
  • Period (.) — Common in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Hyphen (-) — Used in ISO 8601, Scandinavia, and East Asia.
  • Space or other — Some locales use spaces or other delimiters.

This tool uses the browser's Intl.DateTimeFormat API to generate accurate, locale-aware date formatting for each country.
